Wednesday, 10/30 at IFA with Lena.

I had a brief session with Lena this morning strolling through IFA. Lena did so well. She knows something is going to happen if she doesn’t come when called. I didn’t have to use the TC. She’s caught on already. We practiced the recall to SSIF. She tends to sit a distance away so stepping back to bring her in closer helps.. We worked on the finish. She doesn’t always make it all the way around into heel position but she’ll get it. She’s pretty smart. We also worked on her sit/stay while people walked by. It’s hard for her because she is very social but she held. She’s a great little dog.

Mary and Lena Thursday morning, 10/24

I worked Lena briefly this morning. We worked on basic heeling, recalls, sit and down stays. She did great considering she was on her flat buckle collar. Ellie was there in her crate (supervising) so we did most of the work around the crate. At first Lena pulled toward Ellie but after a few “leave its” she was fine.

Kat/Lena 10/18/24 PM FC Week 4 Practice/Exams

I was enjoying catching up on everyone’s posts, and almost reached the end before I realized I never share my update from Friday afternoon!

We did a little LL to warm up. Unfortunately a crazy woman (🙋‍♀️) decided to do the warm-up in the snow so it had the opposite effect of warming… poor pup.

Next we did some basic practice. I decided to try some polishing work where I had Lena’s leash in a J loop attached to her flat buckle collar and my leash attached to her chain collar, held between her ears but without pressure. I tried to be careful to hold my leash steady so if she got any corrections it was from her movement, not mine.

Then I caught Trina’s darling boots with my spy camera. 😜

Trina helped me record and also coached me through the Week 4 Exam. I got fed up with the flat buckle a little of the way through and moved her leash to the chain collar… I still feel like she did well!

Week 4 Exam:

SSIF Exam:

My verbal cues were a LOTtle off today. She succeeded in spite of me.

Unfortunately, aside from a grimy truck that pulled in the parking lot for a few minutes, there weren’t any strangers to approach Lena. I’m not sure if you want me to clip the approach in the Dog Shoppe or maybe record a new approach on Monday, Roxanne?

Finally, Lena and I worked on extending the sit/stays until Suzanne arrived. I believe we made it to 60 seconds at 15’!

I cannot believe how quickly this little dog has learned! It is just incredible to see her growth the past few weeks.

Week 4 exam Trina and Lena.

Lena did very well on her week 4 exam. She is making strides in her progress. I’m so proud of her.

And then the separate video of the recall.

We finished with some extra practice. Sit stay extended, more downs, finish, and a down stay.

Week 4/Mary & Lena

Wednesday morning with Lena…yes I did call her Ellie a few times 🤪

We went through the Week 4 exercises. She was so distracted by two little kids running around on the playground. She did well considering how social she is.

Wk 4 Approach by a stranger

When we first started training there was a bunch of girls at the park for a party. As they were finishing up I grabbed a couple girls to help me with the approach by stranger. Lena did great.

10-15 Trina and Lena

Week 4 AKA Hell week. Lena was a little trooper today. We covered lots of material today, and I do feel like her mental stamina is improving. I tried to introduce and practice all week 4 material. On the recall she is responding well to the command “come” but she is not coming into a SSIF. But for just having this introduced I felt she did well. Her downs are great. No issues in that area. I introduced the finish which will just take time for her to fully grasp the concept. We worked on figure 8 with no problems. On the return to dog she is still skiddish when going around her back. However she is doing great on stand circles. Anyway, check out how she did.

Kat/Lena 10/15/24 AM FC Week 4 Practice

I will have to review what week 4 exercises we need to be working on! Today we did place at 4-6’, down shaping, stay where I focused on holding the stay during my Return to Dog, and a quick approach by a stranger practice when I realized I was almost out of time. ☺️ As usual, a LL warmup as well as heeling practice (which I needed more than Lena, today), and a short cool down while we got everything sorted back to where it belonged.

I’m sorry I was a little late this morning, Suzanne! A quick note about the video- when I’m holding the leash straight up, there is no pressure on it. I hold it so there is no ‘give’ and Lena gets a light, self-inflicted correction if she breaks her stay. I’m very careful not to overcorrect or harm her at all. ❤️ She is just a darling.

Kat/Lena CGC Run-Through, 10/14/24

This was a really fun exercise Roxanne set up for her students in Monday! And I had the opportunity to take Lena through the exercise. Lena hasn’t learned some of the tasks, yet, so we changed the exam a little more to walk her through them instead of expecting her to know them. This was also challenging for me, and you can tell by my waving arms and confused expression at a few moments. ☺️ Good thing everyone was there to coach me through it. 🥰

It looks like my husband actually missed the first part, whoops! ☺️

Here is Roxanne’s recording of the same exercise:

Kat/Lena Week 3 Exam 2, Silence is Golden

I also forgot the pace changes. 🤦‍♀️ In fact, the first time we recorded I forgot what ‘Silence’ in ‘Silence is Golden’ meant. 😆 So we had to re-record. I thought she did really well, though! In spite of her handler. 😉

Week 3 exam 2 Silence is Golden

We completed the Silence is golden Exam this morning at Home Depot. She did well. After getting home and reviewing the video it occurred to me that I didn’t do pace changes. So frustrated because we practiced them prior to doing the test. So if I need to redo I’d be happy to.

After the test I decided to practice place against the distractions around us. This was a challenge. She did great as long as the moving monsters were on the shelf but as soon as I had them down close to her she lost her mind. I took a lot of time just working her against them. After about 15 minutes she was working against the monsters 👿 singing and dancing. I was so proud of her. She made great progress.

10-10-24 Wk 3 Exam 1

What a fun night working Lena. She is such a smart cookie. We started with Longe line to get her warmed up then went right into the body bend exam. We practiced for just a bit before starting. During the practice a little girl started to approach us. She wanted to come pet Lena and Lena desperately wanted to go up and say hi to her. Unfortunately both Lena and the girl were told that we were working and they couldn’t socialize.  ðŸ˜¥ Onward with the exam. No issues that I could see.

After the test I worked on a few skills then had the crazy thought to put her in a stand and try to do one circle around her. Wow! Check out how well she did.

Lastly, we finished with shaping the down.  Again, no problems.  I just went super slow and made her as comfortable as possible. I love how well she is doing the exercise finish after. After the downs she was done. Suzanne showed up within a few minutes and I got her loaded. As soon as the crate door closed she laid down and crashed.
